Test Audience feedback

Once our team had created the first part of our film, we then asked our class to view it and fill out a sheet of what they thought the genre was and what was successful and the improvements we should consider.
Everyone said our opening falls into thriller/horror genre which is what we were aiming for.
Here are the criticisms in which we have worked on to try and improve our opening:

Music changes

Our group originally wanted to play classical music over the top of the beginning section of our opening. However, after experimenting and researching into different horror opening and horror music, we decided that an industrial mixtures of high and low tones would make the scene more atmospheric and scary. We made more music on the Music computers at school and this went well as it gives the opening a more eerie approach and makes it scarier.

Call Sheet

Actor Changes

Due to the unavailability of Gavin Bruce (Dad) and Thierry Zimmerman (Emily) we had to adjust our story and make changes to the actors. Colette Redgrave (Mum) is now a single mum and that was the reason for the move. Our group thinks this is a better decision anyway because it makes the actress more vulnerable to what is going to happen later on in the film. Our new actress for Emily is called Abigail Hulme, a student from Weald who fits the character description perfectly!

Filming Equipment

For filming we chose to use a Cannon DSLR this was down to many reason which I will now explain: the canon has a swivelling vari-angle LCD screens make it easier to compose shots at awkward angles and improves handling when shooting movies. it’s with movie recording that this system excels, offering smooth, continuous autofocus.

Opening Inspiration

These are a few of the many film examples that carry the same theme and atmosphere that we are intending to create in our opening scene of Hextall Court.

We wanted to record our own version of Venetian Gondola by Ignaz Friedman, which is our chosen piece of music in our opening scene, to abide by the copyright rules. We asked the music teacher at our school, Miss Lonnborg, and she played the song on piano whilst we recorded it. We are looking to use it within the beginning of our film to juxa-position the erry opening, the panning shots of the house and the hanging of the the girl.

Filming Schedule

24th January- filming the first 15 seconds of film at Hextall Cottage then 30 seconds in the middle of the film opening with the actors on set.
17th February- filming the rest of our opening in Ide Hill with two of the actors on set.

Age Certificate for our Film

We chose our film to be rated 15 because the content involved within the plot is unsuitable for persons age 14 and under. This is because there is sustained or detailed infliction of pain or injury. There is also continuous violence and possessive characteristics during the whole film and so our coursework group thought it would be best to certify the film as a 15.

Casting Auditions

During a lunchtime sessions, the year 12 Theatre students had an opportunity to perform a monologue to the media studies to see whether they were fit for the roles of being in one of their openings. This was a good opportunity for us to see potential actors/actresses for our opening. They all performed psychological extracts and this allowed us to see the theatre students in the right way which is suited to our opening.

Tuesday, 9 December 2014

On Thursday 4th December our media class attended a lunchtime casting session where A level drama students performed monologues and duologues as an audition to be in our film openings. This allowed us to see if any of the actors suited our chosen narrative and genre based on their look, accent, and versatility to adapt to a different role

Examples of Psychological horrors

Psychological horror is a subgenre of horror fiction, film, and video games (as a narrative) which relies on the characters' fears and emotional instability to build tension.

Final Narrative

My coursework group is: Annie Cocker, Jess Chappenden, Alex Thompson & Sophie Palmer
We chose the Clown narrative because we thought it would be most effective to our target audience. The film would be a psychological horror and they give the audience adrenalin and fear which makes the film remember-able.We also considered the fact that it would be easier for us to create a scary opening than a teen drama. This is because a psychological horror fits more of a wider target audience and there would be a lot of aspects of the teen drama that would have been hard to create a exhilarating opening.
